Diz Ya Know? The Story Behind the Hallway Mirror

There’s a story behind almost everything at Diz’s. Some are big, some are tiny, and some, like the mirror in the hallway on the way to the bathrooms, are hiding in plain sight.

At first glance, it’s just a nice mirror. Practical. Pretty. A thoughtful touch for guests who want to fix their hair or check their smile before heading back to the table.

But the real reason it’s there?

That goes back to Judi being a lifelong theatre girl.

During her years with New Hampshire Children’s Theatre, one lesson was drilled in early and often: there is a clear separation between onstage and offstage. Once you step into the lights, you are on. Everything behind the scenes, costumes, nerves, water breaks, pep talks, stays backstage.

That idea stuck.

Fast forward to Diz’s, where the dining room is the stage. Guests are the audience. And our servers? They’re the performers, telling stories, setting the mood, reading the room, and making sure every table feels taken care of.

The mirror in the hallway is our quiet little backstage moment.

It’s there so servers can do one last check before stepping back “onstage.” Diz’s T-shirt sitting right? Hair behaving? Face saying I’ve got this even if the kitchen is hopping and Table 12 just asked for extra napkins… again?

In Snow & Associates – style service training (the same philosophy used in Disney parks), this idea is everything: guests should only ever see the show. Not the scramble, not the stress, just the warm, confident performance that makes them feel welcome and cared for.

That mirror is a reminder for staff and helps make that happen.

So next time you walk past it, know it’s doing more than reflecting faces, it’s part of the show.

And now we have to ask…

Which server do you think uses the mirror the most before heading back on stage? 😉

Eat. Drink. Be Happy.
